UCLA hosted the 10th annual UCLA Mathematics & Teaching Conference at the UCLA Curtis Center where MAGFORMERS was recognized for its educational benefits in mathematics.

On Saturday, March 4th, 2017, the Department of Mathematics invited K-12 teachers to plenary and breakout sessions to deepen their mathematical knowledge of the math they teach, provide take home standards aligned lessons, and teach current research and recommendations for K-12 mathematics.

In one of the breakout sessions, Michelle Sidwell who is the UCLA Curtis Center Director of Special Projects spoke on the topic of ‘Hands-On Geometry: Investigate, Conjecture, Prove’, and demonstrated the use of different shapes constructed with MAGFORMERS to study honeycombs, volume and surface area. The hands-on learning with MAGFORMERS enhanced the core concepts of the lesson plans.

At the end of the conference, it was concluded that there are tremendous opportunities for improvement in the current educational curriculum, and that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) demonstrates application of mathematical concepts across a wide array of fields and curriculum.

MAGFORMERS as a hands-on visual aide to enhance core concepts of the curriculum at all educational levels and a useful tool in various STEM programs was also recognized by UCLA directors, who will have open lines of communication with the company while brainstorming for new ideas and creating programs for students of all abilities that will help the development of their education and learning.
